The women's clothing destination in Brooklyn, this is the store that defines Brooklyn style: individualistic, artsy, and slightly slouchier than the buttoned-up women of Manhattan. It caters to—and shapes—the tastes of the TV writers and book editors, producers and indie actresses who live in the surrounding neighborhoods. Bird is the pet project of owner Jennifer Mankins, a former assistant buyer for Barneys New York, who handpicks the edgy, original dresses, jewelry, and shoes that stock the boutiques. You're not likely to see anyone else wearing your Tsumori Chisato Heaven Print dress because Mankins buys in limited quantity, and carries only small brands like Acne, Mociun, and Vena Cava.

Tip: The Park Slope location also caters to moms, with stuffed animals and clothing for infants.
