All walks of life used to converge in the after-dark over stiff martinis at Phoenix’s most beloved dive bar. This trashy little spot finally fell prey to development, but reopened on Grand Avenue—an up-and-coming artist-filled nabe in a rougher part of downtown Phoenix. The tattered wallpaper, broken fountain, and tacky beer signs are all still here, along with live music (soul, jazz, seventies covers) seven nights a week. On weekend nights there’s a minimal cover, but no drink minimum. Catch Roscoe Taylor’s Motown sound on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Tip: A little patio offers a breather from the music and a view of the downtown skyline.
