The new stops in town—and how to afford them

The San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum
This ship survived Desert Storm. The Midway is a 1,001-foot-long 1945 U.S. aircraft-carrier-turned-tourist-attraction that opened on the San Diego Harbor in June. Explore its mess halls and captain's quarters, and don't miss the flight simulator, where you can try your hand at landing a Mach Combat F-4 or F-8 on the flight deck (word on the street is it's harder than it looks). 910 N. Harbor Dr., San Diego; 619/544-9600; www.midway.org; $13 adults, $7 children under 17.

Journey to Atlantis at SeaWorld San Diego
Prepare for a three-G, 270-degree turn and a 60-foot drop as you brave the latest water ride at Sea World San Diego—one that cost more than $20 million and took six years to build. On your way out, there's one last thrill: a glimpse of rare and acrobatic black-and-white Commerson's dolphins. 500 SeaWorld Dr., San Diego; 800/380-3203; www.seaworld.com; adults $49.75, children under nine, $39.75, children under 3, free.

Omni San Diego Hotel
PETCO Park, the new home of the San Diego Padres, is the only baseball stadium with 511 bedrooms. The $124 million Omni San Diego is linked to the field by a sky bridge. Ask at the front desk to borrow the Kid's Backpack, a rolling suitcase filled with games and activity books. Sadly, the joint is B.Y.O.B.—buy your own baseball cards. 675 L St., San Diego; 619/231-6664; www.omnihotels.com; doubles from $329.

Tickets to Ride—For Less
Log on to the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau Web site, www.sandiego.org, for discounts on admissions to the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Legoland, and SeaWorld, and other essential—but overpriced—stops. Buy a stuffed Shamu with your savings. 619/236-1212.
