Where to Go Next: Miami

...IS THE NEW MIAMI

From January 2005

By Heidi Sherman Mitchell

After a spell of overexposure, the unofficial capital of South America has been officially reinstated as a high-wattage, high-profile American urban center. Ritz-Carlton recently unveiled an oceanfront resort in a Morris Lapidus building in South Beach, but the action isn't confined to Collins Avenue: downtown has a new Four Seasons, and North Miami Beach is also welcoming development (the New Urbanist Aqua condo complex) while preserving its Miami Modern architecture. This year, the Deauville Beach Resort will be sprucing up its kitschy icon. André Balazs and Canyon Ranch, meanwhile, have targeted landmarks for their latest projects (the Lido Spa and the Carillon, respectively).
